The Geographical Society in the School was founded in September 1961 by the then new Geography Master, Mr. Shovelton. Since then it has grown to be one of the largest school societies with 40 members.

Thanks to the efforts of our secretary, Edmund Nickless, the society presents films of Geographical interest to the school at a modest fee.

During the Summer term Mitchell, Woolford and Waters started a weather station with home constructed apparatus, but this was handed over to the society as a whole, and has been developed into a fully functioning observatory this present term.

Two expeditions have been planned by the society, but one, to the Commonwealth Institute, was doomed to failure by the closure of the Institute a week before we were to go. The second expedition, to the Geological Museum and the South Kensington Science Museum was a complete success enjoyed by all concerned.

At present plans are afoot to make models of features of physical geography to assist with studies. A start has been made in this direction and we are all very grateful to A. Reeder for his superb relief model of Harrow and District, and to Sibley for his of a fiord.

One of the best achievements of the society was the production of their magazine at the, beginning of the present school year. Named “Vista” it was a wonderful first effort and we are all striving to produce an even better second edition in the New Year.
