The main event this term in the life of the DEBATING and QUIZ SOCIETY was the 'Mock Election' which was held on 9th and 10th of April. On Monday 9th, the candidates representing the Conservative, Labour, Liberal, Communist and Independent Parties addressed fifty boys and masters in the Physics Lecture Room, bringing up many points which would most certainly benefit the country if they were carried out. On the following day the voting took place in Form 2B classroom and with each vote counting as 500 there was an excellent turnout with 134 boys voting (66.000 or 52.6% of the school).
This, the first venture of the Debating Society, has proved to be a great success and there will undoubtedly be many more. There was an accusation of bribery by one of the candidates but this was later disproved. |
