Cox Shield Final

The Cox Shield Final between our Under 12 XI and Chandos was played on Tuesday 10th April. A good crowd of staff and boys went with the team to provide enthusiastic support.

The game was played at a fast pace, the small pitch enabling the boys to move the ball rapidly from one end to another. The opening stages of the game were very even, but our boys began to get on top after they scored the opening goal. FAGAN ran in from the left wing to meet a cross from the right and without slowing his stride hit it hard with his right foot into the corner of the goal.

From there our boys went to comfortable three goal lead and the game looked to be won. The vocal encouragement from the side lines had turned into hymns of victory. CHANDOS, however, never gave up trying and came back to score two quick goals and one wondered whether our boys had tired themselves with their earlier efforts. But no; they responded magnificently to the challenge and quickly scored a fourth fine goal to make sure of victory.

Certain memories stand out; FAGAN intelligently passing the ball just at the right moment, MCDONALD tenaciously chasing the ball up the right wing like a terrier after a cat, MUSSON almost driving some of his supporters frantic as he coolly dribbled the ball around his own penalty area. However, it would be unfair to praise individuals, for stood out was the sheer enthusiasm and energy displayed by every member of the team.
