Debating Society

The Society has entered the new school year with a fuller and more interesting programme than usual. This term's events include three senior debates of a religious, political and humanitarian nature and for the first time three open forums will be held. The purpose of these open forums is to give the junior member of the society a chance to speak and thus give them a good grounding for the more serious senior debates later on. Another first for the society this term is the debate with the girls from the Sacred Heart Convent School on the merits of rural life.

The new committee for this school year, under the President Mr. P.G. Cornes, is Mr. P. Devlin, chairman; Mr. D. Cryan, secretary; Mr. L. Robinson, treasurer; Mi. B. Hodkinson, assistant secretary; and Mr. V. Nickless, assistant treasurer. And the society is pleased to report a growing interest and membership in the upper school.

The Committee would like to take this opportunity of thanking Mr. Willis and Mr. Burholt who were both on last year's committees as well as all those who took part in the Mock Election, debates and other functions last year.
