Middlesex Grammar School:
Chiswick Meeting

One of the first events was the Intermediate Long Jump, and Madden was so in action. His third jump of 20 ft. ¾ in., was good enough to win this event and gain him his Standard Badge. This was a wonderful achievement and he is to be congratulated on his success. He followed this up by coming fifth in the Intermediate High Jump with a jump of 5 ft. 5 in., which also gained him his standard. Clubbe battled his way through to 3rd position in his heat of the Intermediate 220 yds. and in the final took 6th place, in a desperately close finish. Although he just missed his standard badge in this event, he ran extremely well, and we are certain he will manage to achieve it next year. In the relay the team finished second in their heat to St. Nicholas to qualify for the final. This event was one of the last on the programme, and the lads really excelled themselves. Their baton changing was extremely good, and they took second place to Hampton Grammar, with St. Nicholas Grammar School third. A really wonderful achievement in the face of fierce competition.
