Floors

Floors are the basis of human existence
Although they are shallow and rife.

Their boards are not warped with false pretence.
They know their purpose in life,
And thus far they're better than us who
When falling short of the rest,
Don't always act as we should do,
But as we think others hold best.

They're humble but indispensable,
Strong only in supporting strength
And they may pour out the vial
Of wrath and restlessness at length,
And this is the ruler's weakness
And the powerful man knows only too well
That by treading upon others to gain greatness,
Greater will be his fall.
