Pleading (A Prayer)

Dear friend, I have wronged you, I confess,
And as a friend, I ask forgiveness.
It is difficult to heal the past, yet
Can you not find compassion to forget?
Life hangs on a slender thread
And, before long, the living are dead,
Do be not ruled by a hard heart
For all too soon, all friends must part.
What did I do? How have I faltered?
Oh Heaven, I would have altered,
All my life if only to
Undo the wrong I did to you.
Dear friend, you have been faithful in need,
Be not blinded by a foolish deed,
And as for wishes, I have only one;
To undo the wrong that I have done.
