English Schools Championships - Blackburn 1966

The All England Schools Athletic Championships were held this year in Blackburn on the 5th and 6th July. To these championships are sent the representatives of each County in England, who have this right by their performances in their own County Championships. The School had rather a special interest this year, as one of our boys was taking part as a member of the Middlesex team. His name? Jim Madden, School Captain, Captain of the house of Campion, and runner-up in the Senior Boys Long Jump in the Middlesex County Sports, with a leap of 2lft. 8ins. It is a number of years since the School has had a representative at the All England, and we all felt proud that at long last, a member of the School had made the County team. Over the years Jim had contributed a lot to the athletics in the School. An excellent performer in both the high jump and the long jump, he was besides, a very good sprinter. He always gave his best, and it is to be hoped, that having left School, he will continue with his athletics, and progress even further. At Blackburn, he was not in the best of form, and jumped only moderately well. Unfortunately, in this type of competition, it was not good enough, but this must in no way detract from his achievement in reaching the Championships. May his example be a constant source of encouragement to others in the School, to follow in his footsteps, and emulate his achievements.
