Road Walking

A completely new venture in another field of sport commenced in September last when, for the first time, teams were entered in the West Middlesex Schools Walking League. The races, over a distance of three miles, took place on the last Sunday of the month, and if you have never attempted road walking, then take my advice and leave it alone. I have the greatest admiration for those boys who volunteered at the start of this venture and who persevered throughout. You will be able to judge for yourselves, from the results, the measure of success they achieved.

There were six races in all, each team having six walkers, with three to count. As there were different age groups taking part in the race a handicap system was used and worked very well. When the final positions were worked out our 'A' Team finished second and the 'B' Team finished third.

K. Borgeat finished 2nd in the individual championship for style and third in the over-all individual championship. He deserved the medal he won for his efforts. I. Bloodworth; J. Casey and M. Jennings also won medals for the most improved team performance.
