Basketball

The Autumn Term saw three teams competing in the County Tournament i.e. U13's, U14's and U16's. All teams played matches in an area group and as a result of these the U13's went through to a quarter final place where they lost to Featherstone. An U15 team competed in the U16 age group and only failed to make the quarterfinal when they lost to Lascelles in a play off.

In the House Competition the final positions in both Junior and Senior Competitions were in doubt right up to the last matches. Each team played six matches with four points going to the winner and two to the loser. At the finish the Houses were placed as follows:

Junior Competition Senior Competition
Gabriel
Becket
Campion
Francis
42 Pts
40 Pts
34 Pts
28 Pts

Becket
44 Pts

35 Pts
20 Pts

This was the first time that an U13 age group have played Competitive Basketball, and in spite of the rather heavy defeat by Featherstone in the second leg of their quarter final match, they are to be congratulated on getting so far. The U16 group were very unfortunate to lose their play off against Lascelles by a mere 3 points. I am certain that this group will do very well in the 68/69 competition, even though they will have to play without the inspiring leadership of Paul Murphy who will be over age. In the Simmarian Trophy the old rivals St. Gregory's put us out in the first round by 26 points - 19, - a bit of a shock, since the U16's had already won the previous two friendly fixtures.
