Cricket - 1st Eleven

1st XI. Captain: D. Dury. Vice-captain: H. Murray.

This season has marked a step forward in that most of our games were played on a Saturday afternoon. This gives much longer for games and so better results are obtained. The team won six of the sixteen games played and lost only three, the rest being drawn. D. Dury again headed the batting averages and A. Ferry, although bowling somewhat below his best, the bowling. It was pleasing to see S. Redican showing good form with the bat and the ball, and A. Murray showing once again that he is our most consistent all-rounder. Next season some of the young players must try to impose themselves more on the game.

One of the highlights of the season was the Cricket Master's XI which was played on Harrow Cricket Club's ground. D. Gibson and A. Brown of Surrey both played. For the Cricket Master's XI Brown, Shaw and Gibson all made scores of more than 40 and the innings was closed at 187-3. H. Murray took all three wickets. The game was abandoned, once again due to rain, when the school had scored 80-2 reply with D. Dury scoring 62.

The other highlight was the 8-wicket victory over Harrow County. We have now got a reputation for being a moderately strong school side. We must see to it that this reputation is not lost when the present side breaks up this year.
