Cricket - Under 13s

At the beginning of the season 1968-1969, it looked as though it was going to be another hopeless season. The season before had been pathetic, with three defeats, two draws and no wins. The season opened with three quick defeats. This was not because the bowling and fielding were very poor, but that the batting was atrocious, no one scoring getting into double figures.

However, we had our first victory over Finchley. Time was running out, with their opening batsman and last batsman in. It was obvious that the opening batsman would not be easily shifted, so we concentrated on the other. He was finally run out. After this we started playing well and won a few more matches. Perhaps the best victory was against Watford Tech. They were all out for 70 runs and it seemed all over, when we started batting, we lost three quick wickets for only a few runs. But a good partnership between Sheehy and O'Sullivan saw us home. Sheehy, who before this match or really this season was lust a slogger, played soundly and scored 30 runs. Streeter again ended up with the top batting averages. Duffy had an excellent season behind the stumps. Streeter, Sheehy, O'Sullivan finished the season with good bowling averages. Our happiest victory was against the Under 12s, whom Mr. Tufnell emphasised, again and again, were better than us. The end of the season was not so happy, when we were easily defeated in our last match. But overall it really was a fair season.

J. O'Sullivan, Captain.
