2nd XI Report

K. Hussey and J. Sugrue

When it was proposed that a photo of the 2nd XI be taken, somebody pointed out that we had so many different players (34, in fact) that we would have to stand on top of each other to fit everybody in. Our lack of a settled team during the season because of injuries and unashamed poaching by the 1st XI caused our results to be inconsistent, but we still won more matches than we lost. During the period our team was settled we played ten games without defeat, including particularly good wins over Bishopshalt 6-2 and Albany 10-0. Team spirit was always good, but during our winning run it was even better than usual. While, perhaps, not the most skilful team in the world, we were certainly one of the noisiest with the plundering efforts of the forwards being heralded by the ceremonious blowing of a klaxon-horn from the goal area, and the bellowing of encouragement or condemnation from the referee. All these antics were looked upon benignly by our team manager and selfless supplier of White Horse liniment, Mr. Henry, whose emphasis on the players enjoying themselves helped to make the season a great success for all concerned.
