Tring Area: Rural Traverse
A traverse was made from the outskirts of Tring along the A41 to the outskirts of Aylesbury. The
group divided into pairs each of which completed about one mile of the traverse. Using enlarged
duplicated maps which showed the route, field patterns and buildings, information was recorded
concerning the farm animals and crops observed in the fields; the age, building materials and
function of buildings; physical features; drainage and soils. To enable correlations to be made
between physical and human geography the information recorded was used to prepare a transect
diagram based on a geological section along the traverse route.
