a) Often used when referring to the mobilities of labour. or
b) Little used term since we moved into a period of continuing slump.

Friendly overtures.

Aid to the Underdeveloped.
Free meals to the Sacred Heart girls.

Rule of Thumb
A term used when referring to the Chancellor's frequent Budget Speeches (Thought to originate from Early Emperor's action when throwing Christians to the lions).

Mark Up (Carve-up)
Often the cry heard during and after the above speeches.

Department of Economic Affairs.
Computer dating for Economists.

Balance of Payments
Figures published monthly to stimulate Emigration.

Gnomes
Mythical creatures supposed to manifest themselves as portents of economic crisis.

Malthus
Related world population to Isostasy - if you put all the people in the world on the Isle of Wight it would tend to sink - whilst the British Isles would tend to rise. (Deflation and Inflation).

Cairncross
wrote "An Introduction to Economics" - unfortunately went mad and never wrote "A conclusion".

Adam Smith
Invented Taxation (Someone had to be blamed).

Keynes
Invented a diagram of the economy small enough to be drawn on one's shirt cuff - handy for examinations.
