The Socratic Society

The purpose of this Society is to equip the members with a degree of adeptness and self-confidence in the art of public speaking.

Early in the year a committee comprising Messrs. McLoughlin, Devlin, Campbell, Hunt, Charlton and Reynolds was formed, to arrange debates and visits by guest speakers.

Debates ore held or a monthly basis, on topics ranging from Euthanasia to American influence in Britain. A certain degree of formality is maintained, a chairman being elected and debates conducted in an orderly manner. Minutes of each meeting are recorded.

It is to be hoped that this new Society will continue next year, so that the new Sixth Form intake may benefit from it as we have done.
