The Wembley and Harrow Schools League was rather disappointing in the number of schools who dropped out as the season progressed. Our Second team of McCourt, Brendish and Ryan won Division 2 and were awarded medals and a certificate. In the Wembley and Harrow Knock-out competition our First team of C. Green, D. Brendish and M. Ryan reached the final, only to lose narrowly 5-4 to Harrow County. The team were awarded medals as runners-up.
The greatest success was enjoyed by the Under 13s team in the National 4-a-side competition. The team of P. Fitzgerald, M. O'Rourke, S. Walton-Smith and N. Devery won the Middlesex competition and went forward as County representatives to the South and East Area Play-off. They won against Hertfordshire 8-0, won against Suffolk 6-2, but lost against an extremely good team from Essex by 7-1 The Essex team went on to the National finals to finish second.
In the Middlesex Schools Singles competition some measure of success was enjoyed by school players. G. McCourt reached the semi-finals of the consolation competition (under 19s). P. Fitzgerald and M. O’Rourke played extremely well in the Under 13s competition to reach the semi-final and final respectively. Both were beaten by the same player though P. Fitzgerald only lost very narrowly 21-18 in the third. M. O'Rourke was awarded a plaque as runner-up.
Consistent form and progress was shown by all team players throughout the season and it is difficult to single out any individual player as success is essentially a team effort as well as an individual one. However, C. Green gained representative honours in the Wembley and Harrow League Under 17 team and kept his place throughout the season. G. McCourt did likewise in the Hayes and Hillingdon League. Considerable interest is being shown in the new National Awards for proficiency at Table Tennis. The Silver Award Test has been passed by C. Green, S. Walton-Smith and M. O'Rourke. The Bronze Award Test has been passed by D. Brendish, N. Russell, G. Trigg, B. Duffy, P. Fitzgerald, A. Walton-Smith, N. Devery and J. Ashe.
