Speech Day

On December 6th, 1966, in the School Assembly Hall, the annual Speech Day and Prize-giving took place. Father Dominic was in fine voice, and made particular comment on the good works being done by young people, in contrast with the more newsworthy vandalism of the minority.

The Guest speaker, Mr. Williams, spoke at some length on further education. The import of his speech was that enthusiasm, not intellectual ability alone, was the first essential in acquiring qualifications. He explained that he himself had once been a mischievous little boy, who had recognised, in carbon disulphide, the sweet smell of success.

The surprise of the evening was the presentation of a pair of cricket pads to D. Dury (UVI) in addition to his earlier prize of a bat for use during his Christmas trip to Pakistan.

Father Aloysius chaired the meeting, which included members of the Board of Governors and their Guests, the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrow. Prizes were presented by the Mayoress.
