The seated figure holding his brow is Pete Dobson. The Beetle is his car - it had a large spotlight mounted in the middle of the bonnet. He told me a story, I think after he'd left the school, about driving home and suddenly being overwhelmed by how dangerous the roads were, so finishing his journey on the pavement; in the car, of course.
