2nd Eleven Report

This season, competition for places in the 2nd XI squad was fiercer than usual, and the high standard of football produced by this led to a very successful season. The most memorable performance was against Quinton/Kynaston at Bannister: after being held to 1-1 at half-time, we finally ran out winners, 13-1. At the start of the season the team was skippered by John Flanagan until he left to keep goal for the 1st XI. His place as 'keeper was ably filled by P. Necchi, while the burdens of captaincy were shared by D. Pitt and S. Hennessy. On a number of occasions Buckler and Hennessy were also selected for the 1st XI. The team played consistently throughout the season, scoring in every match, with Pitt and Carney topping the goalscorers' list. Next season the 2nd XI take part in the newly-formed 2nd XI League. Thanks are due to the team's manager/coach/trainer/home referee/selector/chief tactician, Mr. E. Murphy, whose work and advice helped the team to its successful season.
