Football
General Report

The past season was notable amongst others by fact that there were few cancellations due to wet weather. As a result, a total of 188 games were played by School teams, 109 of these being won, 61 lost and 18 drawn. Football colours were awarded to Tom Geary, 1st XI captain, Tony Feerick, Michael Boyle, Peter Mellon and John Flanagan. Tony Feerick was selected to play for the Catholic Schools in matches against Austria and Luxembourg.

The 1st XI reached the semi-final of the London Catholic Schools Competition before being defeated by Salesian College, Chertsy 5-1 in a replay, after a 3-3 draw.

The U.16s became the second team from the School to reach the final of the Rodwell Trophy, a competition run by the Middlesex Schools F.A. but, like the 1967 team, were on the losing side, being defeated by Syon School, Hounslow, 2-0 in a game played on Brentford F.C. ground, Griffin Park.

The U.13s were the winners of the Headstone Cup, in the Harrow Schools Competition, defeating Lascelles School, 2-0 in the final.

These facts may be termed the highlights of 1970/71 but must not be allowed to obscure the fact that every game played and every boy who plays for the school contributes to the football reputation of the school.

We were pleased to entertain Overleigh School from Chester who were in the London area just before Easter and, of the three games played, two were lost and one won.

A final word of thanks to team managers for their interest and help in running the teams, a task which I feel is not fully appreciated by all the teams, and to Mr. & Mrs. Buckler and Mrs. Morgan who provided so many welcome cups of tea after each Saturday fixture.
