Cricket - Under Fifteens

Captain : K Cartmell Coach : Mr A Smythe

The U15's had a reasonably good season, including a successful tour of Wales. Our playing record reads as follows, p 22, w 8, d 7. The side consisted of about 11 regulars and another 16 who made appearance during the season.

The batting of the side, apart from a stand of 80 between Paul Lankester and John Cregan in one game, was not outstanding, and was in one way a little disappointing in that nobody managed a half-century.

Despite this, six people reached the hundred mark for the season, there were Paul Lankester 190; John Cahill 174; Tony Dockrell 159; Keith Cartmell 144; Pete Robinson 139; Ron Feeney 117. Useful contributions also came from Steve Barrett 83 and Tome Rickard 81. Two players who deserve a mention are Peter Robinson 139 and Steve Barrett, the wicketkeeper, 83, who were both playing in their first season.

The bowling contained good performances, especially from Tony Dockrell 45 wkts, Paul Lankester 43, Roon Feeney 34 and Tim Donovan 15. Tony Dockrell took 5 or more wickets on 3 occasions, Paul Lankester twice, including 8 - 52 and Ron Feeney, also twice.

The fielding improved but still leaves much to be desired. Here, Steve Barrett deserves a mention who, in first season took over as wicketkeeper and claimed 29 victims, 20 catches and 9 stumpings.

The side also enjoyed a good and high spirited tour of Wales. To assist us in our quest for success was Mr A Smythe who was a great help in the nets and kept the team happy with his "witty" (and I use the term loosely) remarks and comments. Our thanks to him, and captain Keith Cartmell In his 1st season as captain. Therefore, we had a good season and enjoyed our cricket. My final word of thanks must go to the author for writing this account of the U 15's season.

Ron Feeney
