Football - First Years
The first year football team have done reasonably well this season. We have played very well in
every game but we have not got the results. Mr Hartin has tried out lots of players but can only
play eleven of them in each game. The usual team is : Kieran Horan, Paul Latimer, Kevin Brennan,
Peter Scott, Paul Liddiard, John Grady, Paul Hunter, Eammon Lynam, Mark Wizbeck, Brendan Horan
and Liam Melinn. Substitutes and also playing some games have been Brian Suchodolski, Steven
Moran, John O'Sullivan and Tony Keen. Some people have just played one game. Dominic Jones,
Simon McDonough and Mark Smythe. Simon and Mark were both tried out as goalkeepers, but now we
have Kieran Horan who is a brilliant 'keeper. We have had two hat-tricks in our team scored by
Brendan Horan and recently against Preston Manor, Paul Hunter got three in our 5 - 4 victory,
John Grady and Kevin Brennan the other two. Brendan Horan is our top scorer although he plays
in midfield.
We were knocked out of the Middlesex cup in the second round by Holland Park after beating
Edgware 4 - 3. In the London cup we were drawn away to Somerset in Tottenham. We played
magnificently but still lost 5 - 3 after extra time. Unfortunately, the referee was not of a
very high standard.
Mr Hartin has done well putting players in their best positions. Paul Latimer was played
forward but he was transferred to right back and played very well. Our other full-back, Kevin
Brennan was formerly a left winger but Liam Melinn was also a good left winger. Both of them
could not play in the same team until Mr Hartin turned Kevin into an attacking full-back. A
problem in our team has been penalty-taking - we have had three penalties and missed all three,
Kevin Brennan, Eamonn Lynam and Paul Hunter being the unfortunate players.
Overall our team has played well but often undeservedly losing. We have not played many games
recently because of the weather, 'our most recent being a 5 - 4 victory.
