Headmaster's Report ( Part 2 of 3 )

On the sporting side we continued to have our ups and downs but as the ups were more than the downs we can report a favourable year on the whole.
Football U 12's reached the semi final of the Middx. Schools Cup
U 15's runners up In the Harrow Cup
U 16's won the Harrow Cup
U 19's won the Harrow U 19 Cup
1st XI won the Middx. League

Trampoline Senior Team won the Harrow Championship and as 14 arrow reps won the London and SE England championship
Athletics There were regular matches in the Harrow League, several boys competed in the Middx. County Championships; one - Thomas Mohan was selected for the Middx. team for the National Championships.
Swimming Mark Cahill and Denis Diggins were in the Harrow team; Chris Ryan of the 2nd year swam in the National Age groups championships.
Cross Country Although matches were few we did send a team to compete in the National Catholic Schools Cross Country championships' at Liverpool
Golf Another first was the entry of a school team in the Aer Lingus International Golf Competition
Judo A school team competed in regular league matches and won the Harrow League; they also represented Harrow In the National Championships at Birmingham
Tennis There were more than 200 entrants in the 3 sections of the school tennis championships; because of the interest aroused we were able to Introduce professional coaching in the summer term.
Hockey After a successful season with the school having representatives in the London Schools County side. The U 15's were runners up in the London Schools' Cup

In addition to competition with the local and county schools we entertained visiting football teams from De La Salle Grammar School, Liverpool and had a reciprocal visit from St Illtyds College, Cardiff.
Cricket 1st XI : A very successful batting season but with some weakness in the bowling (a little reminiscent of the national side!). The highlights of the season were Whiting's 100 against Enfield; Gibbons 8 for 24 against St Edwards and Carey's 4 catches in the match against Finchley. Before the Yorkshire Tour we had a record of 13 wins in 15 games and were rather over-confident. The result was 4 played, 3 lost 1 drawn.
U 15's A reasonably good season with a successful tour of Wales. Six reached the hundred mark - Lankester 190; Cahill 174; Dockrell 159; Cartmell 144; Robinson 139 and Feeney 117. Overall we lost only 7 games out of 22 played.
Rugby 1st XV : A disappointing season with hard pitches and cancellation of fixtures but we are improving. Our squad is rather small both in numbers and age since many of our opponents are rugby-only schools, have larger squads and more in the 17+ range. Clive Romaine and Mike Westaway received their colours and our Oxbrldge candidates continue to support us.
Colts Started the season with 2 defeats but have now replied with 3 victories are gaining momentum and going from strength to strength.
Table Tennis Records : Won the U 16 KO competition and for the 6th time In 8 years won the U 13 competition. In the Middx. League competitions we won the U 19, the U 16 and the U 14 competitions.
Chess The school has continued with a strong tradition of a high quality of play and Interest. They won the Harrow Inter Schools tournaments (senior) and 3 boys have done well playing for local clubs. Many junior players are showing great interest and playing well.
Drama The reputation of the Drama Section continues to grow with outstanding performances of "Peer Gynt" and the "Brass Butterfly" with very high commendation from the drama critics. Currently we are on the boards for our re-presentation of "The Royal Hunt of the Sun". Many will have seen the work done by the pupils in this hall in the audio visual and sound box behind; there is a very close liaison with the Craft department in all areas of drama activity.
