Headmaster's Report ( Part 3 of 3 )

Among our many extra-mural activities have been visits to Boulogne from the French department; to the National and Tate Galleries, Coventry Cathedral, the Cotswolds by the Art Department; St Albans by the History and Archaeological sections; the National Theatre, the Aldwych, the Royal Shakespeare at Stratford and many other visits by the Theatre Club; Field trips of one day, a few days or a week, by the Biology and Geography departments, especially to our own Adventure Centre at Penyrheol near Swansea, run by a past pupil - Fr Wilfred Skoyles and to centres such as Box Hill. The list is undoubtedly incomplete - one has only to recall the most recent society to cast its bread upon the waters - the Haleutic Society
We must, of course, report in the academic field as well and here we continue to see the fruits of the application, the enthusiasm and the cooperation so necessary to success.
A levels - 169 entries with 139 passes - a pass rate of 82%. 35 have gone on to University, 6 are attempting Oxbridge, many have gone directly into banking, Accountancy, Engineering and the Civil Service and some have decided to have a break from their study for a year and take up either paid or voluntary work.
O levels - 566 passes, with a rather large percentage of grade A passes, out of a total entry list of 790 papers; pass rate 72%. As a result of the examination results at 0 level we took 74 pupils into the lower Sixth.
Undoubtedly many other activities have been missed from this report but to all - The FSC for their continued excellent support of the College; the Governors for their unstinted efforts on our behalf; the Education Committee and its Officers; my deputies and the staff; the school secretaries; the prefects; the caretaker and his ladies; the school meals staff - my most sincere thanks for supporting me throughout the year and making possible the maintenance of the high standards we have come to expect from the school.
