Darkness

I blindly kicked and punched my spongy surroundings in another attempt to escape from this horrific existence. I do not know how long I have been here or who or what I am. All I know is that I am alive. I have come to hate my atmosphere of liquid and the soft walls that enclose me in this deathly place. The thing that I hate, and fear, most of all however, is the eternal darkness. Never have I seen my home, if one could call it that, or even found a way out because of this eternal darkness. I plunged at my walls, yet again, hoping I could get more room. Once, I had plenty of space to move, but my walls had closed in on me, or had I grown? This I do not know. I tried to move into a more comfortable position for now I felt tired, so tired. My struggle to escape always exhausted me but I knew I would have to escape soon or my walls would move yet closer and eventually squash me to death

I searched yet again, in this fearful darkness, for some escape route and unexpectedly, to my joy and excitement, I felt that there was an exit that had not been there before. It seemed like a tunnel but I could not tell because of this terrifying darkness. I decided to try to push head-first through it.

As I began to push through this hole I felt as if I too was being pushed from behind. At the end of the tunnel I could see light which I had never encountered before. At first the rays of sunshine dazzled me. I then hesitated as I began to fear the unknown. Why was I being pushed? What would be at the end of this journey for me? Would I end up in a more fearful existence or would my existence come to an end? I then decided to rid myself of these enclosing walls. I had to leave the darkness, so I moved on.

The pushing from behind became strong and I tried still harder to force my way through the tunnel. As I reached the end of the tunnel something began to pull me. My head came out of the tunnel and I began choking. I could not breathe in this dry atmosphere and began to think my life was coming to an end. Then, however, I was pulled out of the tunnel completely and turned upside-down and smacked on the bottom. As I became accustomed to the light I realized that I had been brought into a beautiful world of people.

I had been born.
