The Rat

Here we sit with the devil inside us
Both guns trained upon that spot.
With a falling sun the scene is set,
The anxiety is stretching to our twitchy fingers.
From under the shed a twitching nose appears,
The rat quite blind emerges in confidence.
My eye to the scope and cross wires meet,
Then all is over in a squeeze and a squeak.
