Table Tennis

The table-tennis section got off to a poor start as our enthusiastic coach Fr. Raymond Flanagan had taken up other duties, although he still manages to look after the group on Saturday afternoons.

Under his careful guidance the school teams were most successful in previous years.

The table-tennis continued this year under the direction of Mr. Jenkinson, but due to lack of organisation in the Middlesex Schools Table-tennis Association, there was no league for the school teams, although the second year team had a match against Atholl in which they lost.

The table-tennis on Saturdays went on as usual with some promising second year players attending.

Last term we held the annual table-tennis tournaments for each separate year. There was a good all-round response.

The largest entry was from the second year who showed signs of talent. The semi-finals were between Anthony Reilly and John Leahy; the other semi-final was contested between Peter Mantock and Gregory Doherty. John Leahy beat Anthony Keilly and Doherty beat Peter Mantock. The final was very close.

The semi-finalists of the third year were Richard Ennis, Gary Nazareth, Martin Looney, and Anthony Molloy. Richard Ennis beat Gary Nazareth and Martin Looney beat Anthony Molloy. The scene was set for a repeat of last year's final. Richard Ennis was victorious for his second year running, but he did not have an easy victory.

The fourth year was a battle between P. Clark, A. King, P. O'Brien and D. Jones.

In the semi-final, Paul O'Brien had a very interesting game against Dominic Jones, winning by 2 - 1.

The other semi-final was between Tony King and Peter Clark. Peter Clark won by 2 - 0 even though Tony King put up a good fight in each game. Paul O'Brien had reached his second final in two years. In the final Peter Clark seemed to be more confident and he defeated Paul O'Brien 3 - 2.

The senior tournament rested between two fifth year players and a fourth year player. In the semi-final Terence King beat Paul O'Brien quite convincingly while Peter Clark was beaten by Kevin Cawley.

The final was a very exciting one with Kevin Cawley having a narrow victory over Terence King.
