Alan Osborne was a top bloke. A welcome sanctuary was the Art Room. God, I remember playing cards in the back room and hearing the Rolling Stones 'Star F*ck*r' for the first time. Amazing.

He encouraged us to go in there and lounge on the settee and smoke and tell terrible jokes. I remember him liking to make up jokes. 'A prison guard was playing poker with two prisoners,' he would say in his welsh accent ... 'one of them cheated ... so he threw him out of jail!!' and he would chuckle to himself for ages about that one. Funny what you remember at 14.
